Straight outta Seattle, Say Hi (formerly known as Say Hi To Your Mom) has a new album coming out on March 3 entitiled Oohs And Aahs. I wasn't too familiar with their work outside of a couple songs, so I wasn't really sure what to expect when listening to the new material.
It's their first album since signing to Barsuk, and from what I can tell, Oohs And Aahs appears to be a more "mature" record; this sounds scary but actually plays quite well. "Elouise" is the perfect example; Say Hi is attempting to be anthemic, and for the most part it works, with a guitar-based hook and well-executed harmonies.
Say Hi isn't going to change your life, but I don't think they're trying to. "Elouise" is the kind of song you keep coming back to, because lets face it, sometimes you just don't want to listen to Animal Collective.
You can pre-order the album here.
